Lanae knitwear's story
Hello!
I'm Ana, creator and manager of Lanae tricot since 2017!
I learned to knit in 2015 between my studies in comparative literature and teaching foreign languages, and after a long period at university, I changed my focus to concentrate on my new passion: wool!
I was encouraged by my mother to start knitting when I moved to France — and yes, until 2015 I had always lived in Spain! — and since then I've never been able to stop. Wool, then textiles in general, have invaded my life through many areas such as spinning, sewing, patchwork, weaving, and even machine knitting.
My multicultural identity, my curious spirit, my teaching experience, and my life as a "merchant's daughter" have been key elements in bringing Lanae tricot to life, which has been animating the lives of knitters in Grenoble, and even the rest of France, for several years now!
The shop
In June 2017, I took over an existing yarn shop in Grenoble and named it Lanae tricot. I started alone with several ideas in mind: an online shop, a knitting community, knitting/crochet classes, and natural yarns. From the beginning, the goal has always been to educate our customers on the use of natural fibers, whether they are animal or plant-based.
My French-Spanish origins led me to introduce yarns from the Iberian Peninsula, starting with brands like Rosa Pomar in the shop, for example. French brands are also highlighted with Fonty and De Rerum Natura, and later with Bouclelaine or the Laines du Valgaudemar spinning mill, which joined us over the years.
The idea was to find brands with values similar to mine, which promote small-scale yarn production. However, at Lanae tricot, the selection is wide, and we try to meet a large part of your needs. The quality of the yarns always remains a priority, as does the service we offer you, whether online or in-store.
The courses
Teaching has always held a special place in my family, so sharing knowledge is truly in my DNA. It was essential for me to offer knitting, crochet, or any other fiber and yarn arts classes. Teaching, but above all sharing and meeting new people, are the main drivers behind these moments of relaxation and happiness spent with you.
We offer classes and workshops with my colleague Céline from Mlle Pétronille. Over the years, many of you have joined us, and we thank you!
Knitting get-togethers
A physical store is almost a utopia nowadays, and it's thanks to you, the customers of Lanae Tricot, that the store continues to exist.
We have built wonderful connections: whether through encounters made in the store, but you have also formed bonds among yourselves thanks to our Knit nights, knitting teas, and other sharing opportunities!
I am proud of the strong friendships that have formed during these gatherings of enthusiasts, and we continue to welcome new people, whether you are beginners or experienced!
Pensions
To conclude this presentation of Lanae tricot, I must introduce you to the retreats.
With Catherine, my mother, we have always wanted to create timeless moments of sharing. Inspired by English-speaking "knitting retreats," we have found welcoming and benevolent spaces to help you discover Grenoble or Puivert: our little lost corner in the Aude region.
We invite you, for a weekend, to experience a time of sharing and rest among knitting enthusiasts. Small visits related to wool, workshops, delicious meals, and restaurants: in short, everything is there to recharge your batteries and enjoy yourself while forging connections and knitting stitches.
