The quality Ouessant from Bouclelaine comes from a project to enhance the fleeces of sheep raised on the island of Ouessant. Composed of a blend of several sheep breeds (Ouessant sheep, Finistère sheep, and Arles Merino raised in France), it is available in a range of varied colors, allowing for a great diversity of harmonies. Ouessant island sheep offer very warm wool with a high water absorption capacity and fast drying time. Their very light wool is remarkably low in kemp (the coarse, short hairs responsible for itching). Thus, like all local wools, its feel is dry, but there's no problem with itchy sweaters. In Finistère, the selected fleeces come from farms that are attentive to animal welfare and the environment, some organic, and occasionally from private individuals. As for the Arles Merino, it provides fineness and softness.
